One time on vacation, I was walking my dog and accidentally ended up on land belonging to a resort — not one I was staying at. A security guard stopped me.
Guard: “Is that a working dog?”
Me: “No. Just my dog.”
Guard: “Not an emotional support animal or anything like that?”
Me: “No. He’s just a pet.”
Guard: “Sorry, but he can’t be here.”
Me: “Oh, sorry about that. I’ll head out.”
Guard: “You know, for the future, if you tell me he’s a working dog, I can’t ask for proof or anything. I just need to take your word for it. Obviously, that won’t work now, but something to keep in mind for next time.”
Me: “Okay. Thank you.”
I left thinking, “Did that guy literally encourage me to lie about a medical condition so I can walk my dog?”
