My Mom talked about it all the time. she was the pickiest eater I ever knew.

Pickiness isn’t something you choose, it’s part of your core self. The Truly Picky WOULD starve, if the only foods available were simply unacceptable.
Hence, I fear Petey’s attempts to recruit/tutor Alice will come to naught. She’ll never capable of more than dabbling.

I disagree. All the fussy eaters I know have picky parents who showed them the way.
