Just wait till he hits his teen years – you’ll look back fondly at the time before he emptied the fridge in a single gulp! (c.f. “Zits”…)

Two words - Toe Foo. It is bland, mushy, and takes up space without introducing significant flavor. Picky Eaters, as your parents to stock up on Toe Foo - sold wherever people who don;t care shop.

Sounds like my son….. It doesn’t always change when they hit the teen years - he’s 15 and still is picky like Petey!

My cousin has two daughters that, when young, would go to a restaurant and having found nothing on the menu that they wanted to eat, would order noodles with butter.

jestrfyl: Are you referring to tofu, otherwise known as soy bean curd? Nasty stuff, but I guess it’s a diet staple in some cultures.

Last week’s Dirty Jobs program was about making tofu. It reminded me a great deal of the cheesemaking process at a cheddar cheese factory I toured in Oregon.

I can’t buy that. I like texture and flavor - it’s just that there are some textures and flavor best left untasted.

    openminded, they might be Aspies…

Tofu in itself is about the blandest food imaginable, but it’s good at absorbing the flavors of what it’s cooked in.

Her first mistake is giving him a choice. I would tell him like I tell my own son, finish all you food (or at least most of it).

sredman, that’s a battle she couldn’t win, with Petey as her adversary. Petey’s very good at immobility, and if she said “You aren’t leaving that table until you’ve cleaned your plate”, he’d happily sit there for days…

bald 716: that would ruin the whole point of the part where she said,” a bland bowl of nothingness”

Asperger’s has all sorts of annoying symptoms, not all of which need be present to qualify you for the club. It’s just far enough along the autism spectrum to make Aspies seem “totally wierd” to the normal and boring…

Social phobia or awkwardness, hyper-literalism, expanded vocabularies (Aspies know when there’s a word that’s precisely what’s called for, and by God they’ll want to use it!)…
