Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for August 10, 2010
Transcript:
Alice: I'm worried about Petey. He's having a playdate with some "friend" he barely even knows. Dill: Petey is? Alice: Petey has the social skills of a small, wet teething cracker. He's bound to get into trouble - Kevin: GAH. Alice: I'm also worried about Kevin, who seems incapable of folding a paper hat that'll fit his big bucket head without falling apart. Dill: I like small, wet teething crackers. Kevin: DARN.

When Richard created Alice, he broke the mold. I love it.

Alice … someday that big bucket head will help Kevin become a rugged macho action hero, he’ll be making million$ and you’ll wish you’d been nicer to him back in preschool …

Alice, don’t be too hard on your Big Brother. He’s a delicate soul.

I think you’ll need the Sunday edition for Kevin.

Petey is more like milk toast, but as an adult I am sure he will mature and become a milquetoast.

Alice will make an excellent platoon leader someday.

I think there will always be advertizing flyers. I count on those for bird perches and cages. My local newspaper has almost nothing worth reading - not even 1/2 the comics I like, and leftist views on the news. On the net, I get everything I like.

How does Sofa look in a paper hat?

The gum in Dill’s hair will help keep his hat in place.
And if they peel it away carefully after they’re done, they can stretch the pictures left behind by the ink, like Silly Putty! Hours of fun!
I think Petey would be better described as a strand of fettucini, prepared al dente. Limp, but also strangely brittle.

I tried to make a pirate hat out of today’s newspapers and it didn’t work. The older newspapers were wider so the hat had a narrow turned-up brim and was big enough to fit anyone. Now they just come out small and silly with a wide brim. Not good.
