Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for October 24, 2010
Transcript:
Alice: I made my own Jack O' Lantern! Daddy carved the face part, then I did all the stickers, glitter, tinsel and ribbons! Beni: I put my Grandpa's old teeth in my Jack O'Lantern and it's so realistic my Grandma's been yelling at it. All day. Kevin: My Jack O'Lantern is the plastic kind you plug in, but I helped carry it in the store, so it's just like I made it mysel- Alice: FORGET IT, KEVIN! Marcus: My Jack O'Lantern is inspired by that clown that came to my last birthday party. EEEEURGH. Dill: My Jack O'Lantern was volunteered for trebuchet artillery practice. Petey: My Jack O'Lantern evokes the horror of our dehumanized world, its soulless blank - Alice: BORING!

I feel for Dill. Older brothers + trebuchets = rough childhood.

Is Alice the Judge?
cdward about 14 years ago
If Dill can piece his back together, then he can have FrankenJack. Then Alice would think it was the second greatest ever (after hers).

BADGER: “Peter is gonna be a film student in college, isn’t he?”
Petey might learn to make those types of films in this country, but he’d never get a job. Maybe in Europe. If they made Jack O’Lanterns in Hollywood instead of movies, they’d all look like Alice’s.

Compare panels 6 with Charles Schultz’s Great Pumpkin foolery and judge American popular tase. “Cul de Sac” would be one of the nation’s most widely syndicated strips if America had the ability to appreciate it.

Great pumpkins, all in their own way. But, of course, Alice would only think hers was the best no matter what. And Petey, well he is the non-traditionalist…. And Dill, just a victim of older brothers :)
