Mom thinks quickly on her feet, luckily for Petey! And she has the added bonus of earning Alice’s admiration!

Panel 2 is a fine companion to Angry Pangolin Alice from last week.

Panel two is the most animated I’ve ever seen Petey. I think it becomes him.

BTW, I wish Andre had been there to witness it. Petey would rise five levels in his esteem.

Mom’s quick thinking stopped a moment of an impending rating’s plummet of unheard of proportions. I hope she can apply that same quick thinking the next time the stock market takes a nose dive.

Mom should take Petey to see “127 Hours”. That’ll teach him.

Constantinepaleologos: “How do they know what everyone eats anyway?”

Are you kidding? Nowadays “they” know everything. You’ve never actually read the Patriot Act, have you?

In truth, it’s very simple. By going to Google: Earth and clicking “Plate View”, anybody can see what you’re eating right now.

(You’re putting that in your mouth? Eeeewwwww…..)

The Global Picky Eater Index seems to me to be more of a ranking than a rating, though. A “rating” would imply that Petey’s being compared to some sort of Absolute Pickiness, perhaps on a scale from 0.00 (eats nothing) to 1,000.00 (eats anything) (Dill?). As such, his rating would be entirely under his own control. A “ranking”, as it has historically been used in this strip, would imply that Petey’s being compared to other eaters around the globe. As such, his rank could fall without changing his own habits at all, if someone else becomes pickier.

That’s the Way of the West, Petey. As soon as you establish yourself as the Pickiest Eater in the Territory, some young punk with a spoon comes gunning for you, refusing to eat his alphabet soup until all the Y’s are removed (“Are they vowels? Are they consonants? I’m not touching them until I get some answers!”)

Normally Alice makes up the action while Petey throws in a witty phrase at the end. The reversal is interesting.

Ah, the horrifying vowel-consonant Y. Any meticulous letter-enthusiast’s worst nightmare come to life!

Thank God modern orthography distinguishes between “I” and “J”, and between “U” and “V”. As recently as Shakespeare’s day, an explorer might head out into the jungle and find himself lost in the ivngle.

But uue’ve still got the maddening case of “W”: stringing tuuo vouuels together and uuinding up uuith a consonant? UUTF?!? Uuhose idea uuas THAT?

It’s the weekend. What’s the problem?

Great Caesar himself would have signed his name “IVLIVS.”

(He also pronounced his last name like “Kaiser”, but that’s a different cettle of karp.)

I just love the second panel! Don’t let him chew his arm off, he’ll die of shock. (Or maybe he’ll just die of embarassment anyway!)
