Ernesto: Twelve cents makes you eligible for a napkin with the FAA logo on it in catsup red! Petey: No! no, um, I don't, um, that's not, um, no.... Ernesto: You'll miss the fun and frolic, Peter! And stop thinking I'm imaginary! It's rude. Petey: I hate it when he reads my mind.
My Ernesto theory is that he’s a real boy (based on interactions with others) but that Petey has extra-reality episodes with him. i.e. imagines many of his conversations with him.
