Mom: I'm pushing the stroller so you'll have to hold the groceries on the way back. Alice: What are we getting? Mom: A bunch of watermelons, a few bushels of potatoes, a jumbo bag of birdseed, some bags of party ice- Don't drop anything. Alice: I won't! Mom: ....a sack of decorative gravel, a set of barbells and Daddy needs a new anvil. Alice: That's kind of a crummy thing to do to a baby.
Mrs. Otterloop is making a very relative point (what would Mr. Otterloop do with an anvil if he actually needed one?)
