my daughter was like that, hated gym class baseball, always picked way outfield. Guess what happened,, yup ball right for her, arms up over her face, next hour a cast on a broken elbow. hit right at the joint.
My son’s soccer experience was quite similar. Early morning. Wet grass. I found myself caring about the outcome as much as he did. I wouldn’t have brought a magazine though. The missus would have socked me. I’ll bet the sidelines look a lot different twenty years later. All the bystanders can get lost in their smart phones.

Petey should make it to the MLS: Major Losers of Soccer.

He would’ve been fine if it weren’t for all of those nagging doubts hanging around blocking his view.

I like to imagine the bowling strike sound effect happening at panel seven.

Alice: innocent observer. Mom: a little too disinterested! Petey(s): victim(s) of raging sports mania, the bane of bookish introverts!

Anyone else notice that Petey looks like Mark Zuckerberg?
