Once again, a little over 10 years ago, Richard posted a blog entry regarding this strip:

Alice discovers some of the trials of science – sometimes, it doesn’t go anywhere dramatic.

Sometimes you do years of research, become an acknowledged expert on the Dung Beetle and discover and name a new species only to be canned and have to move in with your sister in Oxnard. And we’re not talking Oxnard at the beach, no! We’re talking Oxnard by the onion fields!

The bug had taken the day off from, you know, bugging!

I yearn to be able to waste the days as I did in my youth.

Is Petey tapping his foot? That seems like unnecessary motion. What would Little Neuro say?

What makes Richard Thompson’s work so great? The little ‘human’ things like Petey, in the final panel, twitching his foot back and forth while on the bed reading.

When I was letting my dog out of the Car this morning, I noticed I needed to wipe her off with a towel. Leaving, I noticed a slug in my path and made a note to avoid stepping on it when I returned. Of course, I forgot all about it. When I returned, I wiped Carmy off and as I was walking her to the house, I wondered if the slug would be a sticky mess on the sole of my shoe. I looked. No mess. I walked back to the garage and the slug had disappeared. I looked all around and didn’t see it. Fantasizing, I imagined that slugs only move slowly when people Are around, while they scamper when alone

Alice, Alice, my little self-centered doll. Do you really think Mom (and maybe Dad) would take a whole day off from work to follow your buggy ideas?

Let me put it another way. Do you want to eat? Work=salary=paying for food, house, cars, etc.
