Today’s “Daddy’s Home” Comic & Question:Why am I asking you a question about a 1928 German stage drama called, Die 3-Groschen-Oper?
Answer, part 1. Die 3-Groschen-Oper (Three-Penny Opera), character Macheath (Mack the Knife).
Answer, part 2. “Mack the Knife” lyrics, by Bobby Darin.
Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dearAnd it shows them pearly whiteJust a jackknife has old MacHeath, babeAnd he keeps it … ah … out of sight.
So, Tony, pretty easy question. Have a little respect for the strip’s demographic; we ain’t readin’ “Pluggers,” you know.
Well…without the aid of friend Google…that would have gone straight over my head…whats pluggers?
What? No swimsuit for the puppet?
Actually, lyrics by Bertholt Brecht… Darin wasn’t even a twinkle in his daddy’s eye, yet
I’m reminded of the Pink Panther doing his impression of Jaws for some reason…
I love this strip and Tony’s questions too. I don’t read German, but realised the meaning because I knew groshen was money and I’ve seen many performances in English. I also love comic Operas in general.
