I never took home ec (I took drafting in HS) but taught myself to sew and I was cooking the meals for my parents and brother since 7th grade (mom was a terrible cook). I taught my boys and girl to sew a button and hem as well as rewire a lamp and a light switch. I’ve always believed in doing what you can.
I do buttons, hems, and repairs, using the nice machine my wife brought to our marriage 40 years ago. She used to sew, but hasn’t for years. I even do hems for my grandkids.

I can sew a button, re-stitch a seam, simple repairs.

He should hem his own pants. Why “assume” sewing is the woman’s job?

Yes, I can, but I don’t. My sewing machine has been sitting in my attic for oh, gee, how many years now? LOL! I do sew buttons back on though!

I have to go with no. I never learned but I’ve tried and the results were umm…..scary, funny, sad. I’ll happily pay someone to not have that headache.

It’s true tho’ his wife looks like a sour puss who would not bother to do anything for her husband

Poor guy. If he can’t get a “hem job” I guess a hum job is out of the question. Oooo, my bad!
