Coincidentally enough, our local elementary schools start tomorrow.
Whatever happened to the day after Labor Day?
Actually, in the midwest, September weather usually signaled the beginning of Autumn…a crispness in the air, a yellowing in the trees….it reminded you that summer was over, and school was starting.
Here in Northern CA, August and September are usually our hottest months, and it seems unfair to say summer is finished, with the bluest skies of the year stretching ahead.
Meanwhile, Tony asks….
“Who cares?”
I care, Tony.I don’t want to tell my poor, struggling tomato plants that it’s almost autumn.
Growing up in Quebec in the 60s school finished the first week of June (with the exception of writing exams) and we didn’t go back until the day after Labour day.
Yes I care tony. If I don’t, who will?.Yes I did miss summer vacation. For the last month, our only employee has been detained by the state. So little man and I had to spend everyday at work to help answer phones. Instead of having the last month to play and enjoy summer we got to have yesterday off. He went back to school today.
It was so much fun! But at the end of summer we had to work, in order to buy School clothes. Still even that came out to be fun!!! We, my brothers and I would throw stuff at each other in the grape fields. LOL!!!
LAUSD started last Monday. The LA Times reported that more and more parents want school to begin the day after Labor Day. As this is my second month of retirement, I didn’t have to go back to school. Schools out forever for me !
QOTD #1: I do care I have friends with school age children so soon they will be free for midweek lunches.
QOTD #2: Don’t miss summer vacation, as Susan said we are hitting our hottest months here in Nor Cal. Friday I have to drive to Sac tp pick up my father who gas been in Florida and Indiana visiting family. He’s had rainstorms so I warned him how it is here.

In the world of “Daddy’s Home”, school must be restarting soon.

I can tell it’s the weekend because there are fewer comics on than week days.

Hey kids, if you think it is bad now, just wait until you have to go to work and cram vacation into week long blocks of time.

It’s the end of the world. It ended when I went back to school.

Hot mess? (What a stupid expression!) These kids are a lot better than many kids their age. Most of your comments are a waste of space on the page.

It must be getting close to back to school. I’m seeing all the kids who need hearing and hearing aids checked before school starts.

When I was in business for myself, a weekend was any two back to back days I could get away from the business…

Did you miss summer vacation?
Pretty hard to miss something you rarely had…
