Get rid of crumbs and left-over food, then even piling the dry dishes is no problem.
They’ll soak while being washed sufficiently. Glasses, cups and mugs first (not one by one), plates after that, less filthy first. Cutlery after that, then pots and pans. I prefer to wash plastic last if the water’s still hot enough, otherwise extra. And careful with anything that had contact with raw fish, poultry or other meat etc.
Soaking is smelly and yucky and makes only sense if something is burnt. Try baking soda.
