As I get older, I’ve noticed that reading is among the many things that I do more slowly. My books don’t disappear while I’m reading them. But sometimes I can’t recall where I put them.
Reminds me of a parody of “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” “Ludwig Von Wolfgang Vulture” who was speed reading at the mach neural limit when he hit a semicolon and knocked himself unconscious.
I was speed reading before the fad, promoted by President Kennedy, came along . Took a speed reading class in college but was already doing all the suggested steps automatically at 1200 wpm with 80% comprehension. I think it helped that I wasn’t introduced to phonetics until the fifth grade. Books are my most expensive hobby; it’s a mixed blessing.
It’s why I hate instructional videos. I watch video at the same speed as everyone else. :)

I forget what comedian joked about speed-reading War and Peace. “It’s about Russia.”

I can’t tell if Horace will catch up with it some day, or if it will come back to him…

Sounds like the Steven Wright joke, “I put instant coffee in a microwave and went back in time…”

So this is why I can’t find books I’ve been reading! 88 pages an hour is under 500 wpm, which is my typical reading speed for fiction.
