We recently purchased a travel trailer, just heavy enough to require brakes. The least expensive brake control (on the car side that is) is a blue tooth thing, that requires your phone to setup the initial connection between car and trailer. Long story longer, if for whatever reason you do not have your phone, or the battery has simply died, the brake controller does not initialize. No brakes, very unsafe driving. I paid the service guy about $240 to run the wires the old fashioned way.
