My granny used to dry her own apples then use them to make stack cakes. That’s even better than apple pie. (Though she made the best apple pie, too.) I inherited her cast iron skillet, but she never wrote down her recipe for stack cakes.
I used to love apple pie — until I found out that the pie crust is generally made with lard, and now I’m forbidden by Jewish law to eat it. (The lard makes it unkosher.)
