I have a couple of relatives like that. I was visiting my parents some years ago and against my desires, decided to have a small family gathering while I was there. One aunt, attempting to pry into my personal matters, just so she could have something to gossip about to others. She got mad when I choose not to play and tell her anything. She told me she had a right to know about the things she was asking about. I asked her why she had a right to know anything about me, that she was not giving me, nor had she ever given me money, I had been married over 30 years (at that point), was employed, etc. I never used any profanity or yelled, but I spoke forcefully and bluntly.
She got into a big fluff and apparently I was the jerk because she and her cohort of other relatives; who came to confront me thought I was unreasonable and rude. They were shocked at how rude I was when they showed up to demand I apologize. The second bout was not my finest moment by a long shot. Sigh.
