I’m still waiting to find out why a science museum is staging a mystery play. Even making the play a fundraiser for some exhibit about forensic science would be reaching pretty far this late in the story line…
The Trib is dropping Annie and keeping DT? Now that’s Bizarro World, I never followed Annie but it seemed after its revamp it had a lot more to offer than Locher’s train wreck.

Thanks for the link. It’s good to see some comic strip ENTERTAINMENT for a change.
Does anyone else really wish Rick Fletcher was still alive?
Also…what do they pay this guy? Like this strip can’t be worth more than 3 CANADIAN dollars…
It would not surprise me to learn that Brozman doesn’t even get paid for his horrific contribution to this strip. I mean, seriously: http://www.grahamcrackers.com/dgstore.htm
Is it possible that Tribune keeps this strip around just to maintain some sort of claim to the Dick Tracy rights? Perhaps if they cancelled this strip, they’d lose the rights in the same way a movie studio can lose the rights to a film or property if they don’t produce a film within a certain time frame. In that scenario, if Tribune wants to keep the rights, they do the bare minimum, producing this train wreck - three or four storylines per year, drawn out over months and packed with filler, rife with cut and paste panels, endless headshots, skimpy dialogue, needless repetition, etc. Locher and Brozman probably produce it for next to nothing, their only real benefit being professional credentials and association with a name property.
Annie isn’t perfect, but the writing and art are far superior to Dick Tracy. Annie’s cancellation just has to come down to how much Tribune pays for Annie (how much it costs to have the strip produced) versus how much they pay for Dick Tracy. If they pay Maeder and Slampyek fair value for the work they produce, especially compared to that of Locher and Brozman, then Annie costs them far more than DT (if the compensation were “fair,” Brozman and Locher would actually be paying Tribune to produce this garbage). So when it came time for budget cuts, DT stayed and Annie got the axe. That’s the only ‘justification’ I can see for this turn of events.
I guess what I’m saying is, we’d all better enjoy Jim Scancerelli’s work on Gasoline Alley while it lasts.
I wish Rick Fletcher or someone of his caliber were drawing this strip. But I concur with the idea that the syndicate is only holding on to the strip for the copyright.
And it’s true about Gasoline Alley, read it people!
It’s more than worth it.

Pig on Wheels is above the likes of the present day Dick Tracy. Well, he did make a couple appearances in the circus story to keep us from falling asleep.

Now, seeing that earlier panell where did this “red hair” wig come from.? I guess rapidly out of his coat pocket (before even picking up the gun) - and all the time I thought he was ‘feeling up’ someting else (?)
So the man behind the mask must be the bald-headed (red wig on) younger brother of RUGHEAD (1954)

Is that supposed to be Dick in panel two?
More importantly, what kind of play makes the actors responsible for providing their own costumes? isn’t that what wardrobe departments are for?

Quiet on the Set! Tracy looks like an idiot! How long does the rehearsal take?

Somebody just clued me in to the fact that there are plenty of great DT parodies on the following page:

Long enough for Tracy to make an Idiot of himself.

radish, my thoughts exactly. He’d keep crows miles away from the corn.

That’s an evil clown in panel 2. Can you believe the Trib is canceling Annie and keeping this stuff?

I went to the theater last night and checked out all the scientific displays. Tomorrow night I’m going to the science museum and watch a play.
Greetings from Bizarro World where bad is good, up is down, and ugliness is beauty…

Everyone’s been eagerly awaiting the return of Tracy’s coat and hat. This wasn’t what we had in mind.

I don’t think he changed a thing…same outfit he’s been wearing for decades. No wonder the strip stinks. ;)
