The storm troopers return! Everyone in Police Hdqtrs is concerned about Tracy, but nobody wants to go out in the storm to attempt to find him! They know he was transporting a dangerous person.
Slimesloppers Wreckbook: Keep your thumbs with you at all times.
Panel #1: The correct grammar would be “We’ve got to find him.” Why is he so concerned? Is Thick his long-lost illegitimate son?
Panel #2: At least Testicle Chin has a plan. It’s an insane and idiotic plan, but it is a plan. And is Horn Hair stating the obvious or–given her weird expression–expressing a hope? In the real world, wouldn’t she say “STFU, you aren’t going out, remember I give the orders here!”
Panel #3: Grammar. Grammar.
Panel #4: Which optimist is expressing that thought?
Panel #5 & 6: Much is now explained. Mordred is an alien and comes from a world where the authortities are unarmed.
Panel #7: Never mind the non-explanation. “Sneaky?” Thick had better get rescued soon. He’s out of clever insults.
Used to be, the Sunday strip recapped the previous week. Now it’s recapping the whole month…ironic, since the past month didn’t make much sense in the first place.
In the big picture, it’s much better that Egypt listened to its people and is moving toward democracy. Still and all it would be nice if TMS would clue to the fact that pretty much every comment on this strip is negative, and do something to make it better. Guys?
Is it just me, or is anybody else curious that the police department of a city that’s being drowned by a Katrina-sized storm has absolutely nothing else to worry about besides Tracy?
I like the way Testicle Chin can turn his mouth from one side to another independent of the direction his head’s facing (see panel three). Evidently he’s the product of some bizarre human/anteater DNA recombination project.
You can still find pay phones, but they’re few and far between.
Reason for writing down important numbers: your cell phone may fail. If it goes to “Cell Phone Heaven” you’ll still have your numbers if they’re written on paper. Carrying the paper around probably isn’t such a sharp idea though.
Panel 2 and 3 – The Police HQ soap opera continues with the addition of the Gauleiter of Gotham joining in! But, it’s the same, tired old aria about how Spacey is missing and may be in need of assistance, or maybe Spacey is already a goner. To spice things up a bit, a chorus, made-up of burly men dressed in SS and Gestapo uniforms, will be entering the fray soon (maybe next week?). This could turn the whole Tracy story line into a sort of “spring time for Hitler” parody? Image everyone at HQ singing about “Jackboots and Jodhpurs” to the tune of some obscure Grateful dead song! It will have nothing to do with the plot, but, hay, there’s little or no plot anyway, right?
Panel 3 – Chief Horn Hair is now sporting a bowtie in addition to her regular tie! Who says she can’t keep up with Sam’s fashion statements!
Panel 4 – Sam Is showing signs of a stroke. Note how the left side of his face is slightly droopy and even though the right side of his mouth has disappeared, it appears quite placid. Or, maybe it’s just another of Sam’s “anal retentive” moments?
Panel 5 – Gratuitously boring view of “old granary”. Local papers have following ad: “Are you in the market for a Cape Cod mansion, with an ocean view? Have we got a deal for you!!”
Last two panels – Note how Morass is expressing his fashion sense! Changing from an “Old West” look, exemplified by the wide neck scarf to a more cutesy “Little Lord Fauntleroy” collar? He’s probably trying his best to keep up with Chief Horn Hair. Good luck with that, Morass!
Also, Spacey’s gun seems to be dissolving in the last two panels. Maybe it’s one of those chocolate guns, popular a few decades ago?
Rx71Wm29, the gun isn’t chocolate. It was carved from a soap bar by an escaping felon. Dick Tracy kept it as a souvenir of the classic years and Thick forgot what it was..
Notice how the granary is leaning to the right now. Are the wind and the waves about to topple it over? As for Mordred being surprised that Thick has a gun, he has a short memory. I recall Thick pulling out the gun after he pulled Mordred out of the sinking car and it’s only been two days. It seems like it is eternity.
There’s no telling how many time these images get re-used. Are Locher & Brozman working with stencils, or clip art, or tracings? This could explain why Horn Hair’s horn is always on the side of her face opposite the reader no matter which way she faces–flip the image 180 degrees and she’s looking in the required direction.
I may go back and see how often she’s shown face-on with her eyes raised upward.
Okay, I give up. It would be one thing if neither Locher nor Brozman had any drawing skills. It’s something else when one of them–Brozman is my guess–has enough talent to sketch out something that resembles a human face. But what is with those facial expressions? What they say to me is Horn Hair is thoroughly bored with her job and Testicle Chin has nothing but disdain for the people around him. But what of the creature in Slimeglobber’s Textbook? What is the explanation for that snooty look? “Well, all my companions have fallen to muggers, rapists and double-parkers, but I had enough sense to protect myself with my important phone numbers!” Or is he a pickpocket who is thinking “Now that I’ve ripped off some important numbers I need no longer associate with footpads, highwaymen and sneaky serial killers!”

Judging by panels 5 & 6, they both seem to have an oral fixation. (I guess the gimp mask’s mouth operates like Dutch doors)
Last panel: I hope Mordred doesn’t crumple under that withering verbal assault.

Bensondonald, if the detectives were half as curious as this police force, they’d solve all their crimes in a week!

If we had only the Sunday strips this story might have moved along pretty well.

In the first picture of the storm trooper, he’s clearly Peter Graves, but in the next panel he’s TV’s James Brolin. I wonder who he’ll be next time.
See? That’s the kind of suspense that keeps me coming back every day!

Locher apparently doesn’t realize that people program numbers into their cell phones…
That poor guy in Crimestoppers is wandering around with his little piece of paper looking for the last pay phone in America…

Actually, it’s worse than that. Sam announced that he was going out to find Spacy on the day after Christmas. Fact.
