This is a tight spot for Tracy and Catchem both. Stiletta is probably carrying her beltful of knives; maybe she plans to use a different one on Tracy for each of her lost children and her thug-husband, carving him up bit by bit. Sam doesn’t have have a clear shot at anything but ankles and legs unless he rolls out from under the bed and exposes himself—not a safe maneuver. It seems to me Sam’s best bet is to lie low until he’s alone with Tracy again, then try to get out alive until he can get some backup. The danger is that Stiletta may intend to start “operating” on Tracy before that can happen….
Tracy should have already figured out he wasn’t in a hospital, unless Stiletta has some really strong hospital disinfectant to cover up the cigarette smell.
Two strips in a row that Sam’s not smoking! I’m hoping that this one plays out a while longer and becomes a little more complex as I don’t want a quick ending but I don’t want to see Moonmaid come to the rescue of both of them either. Just doesn’t seem to fit into this scenerio.
The railroad cop is 100% wrong about “cop”. “Cop” is an English colloquialism for “catch”, deried from West Frisian kāpia, “to take away”, and is related to German kaufen, “to buy”. A copper is someone who cops a criminal, and the word was informally shortened back to “cop”.Almost any time a word is supposed to derive from an acronym, that etymology is probably wrong. There are some genuine modern examples, like laser, sonar, radar and scuba, but most older words sometimes said to come from acronyms do not. Some examples:“for unlawful carnal knowledge”“gentlemen only, ladies forbidden”“port out, starboard home”“special high-intensity training”“store high in transit”
Regarding the Crimestoppers Textbook: there was an Alley Oop story where King Guz promoted him to Chief Of Police. All the cavemen started calling Alley “COP” because that’s what the abbreviation on his helmet spelled. This annoyed him until one of the other cavemen said, "It could have been worse, Oop. Guz could have made you “Police Investigator General.”
