A wonderful remembrance, Mike and Joe
I know i posted this last year, I hope you do not mind.
They were there to answer duties call
That day we saw the twin towers fall
They knew the job was full of danger
But it was theirs, to help friend or stranger
To answer a call, they could not pick and choose
Though their lives they might even lose
Hearth and home, they had to leave
To do, in what they believed
A quiet morning, to be had by some
Nothing much but routine to be done
But when the alarm sounded, they sallied forth
To those soaring towers, both south and north
The first responders, from throughout the city came
All knowing things would never again be the same
Smoke and flame, high up in the sky
No time to hesitate, no need to question why
Flame and smoke poured from above
But no-one had to give them a shove
Into the building they went with all their gear
Things had to be done, no time for fear
Fire, police, EMS’s too
All knew the job that they had to do
Up they went, seemingly without a care
People were in dire need of their help up there
Through the flames, smoke and dust
They did the things they knew they must
Then came those terrible, ominous sounds
That heralded the towers crashing to the ground
The dust and smoke are all settled now
In prayer and remembrance our heads do bow
For all who perished on that fateful day
We honor the price that you did pay.
