Is this Dick Tracy or Family Circus?

I have an idea for a story line. It’s called the “Mars Period”. It involves Dick Tracy visiting Mars and making first contact with martians. Also, Joe Tracy falls in love with the martian princess, who happens to be the same age as him.

So, Bonnie split up with her boyfriend some time ago. Joe Tracy is long since past his “Cool Dude” phase.

I agree that it’s nice to see and I have a feeling it will be very relevant in the very near future of the current story.

Interesting how succinctly Bonnie glossed over Joe Sampson. Is there more to that story? (Note the look in her eye in panel 1, also.) She quickly re-focusses attention on little Joe [not a Bonanza reference] and lets him speak….

I think Bonnie and Joe S didn’t end their romance on good terms, judging by the look in Bonnie’s eye, when asked about it.

And Cool Dude officially “retired”. Thanks, Mike!

nice way to tie Joe and “Cool Dude” together, and then hopefully retire that nickname forever.

Another bad memory is gently erased. Well done. I agree that fleshing out Tracy and his life away from the MCU has been smart and effective. The Early Show appearance and this brief glimpse of Tracy at home (as when we saw him making chili, and when he remarked to Joe that, unlike costumed “super heroes,” he wasn’t brave enough to run around in tights) are good reminders that the world of the strip has depth and complexity beyond the current criminal activity.

I appreciate the acknowledgement of her history. I think we only saw Bonnie and Joe in one story but this is a nice nod. I won’t miss the Cool Dude nickname. I hope Bonnie has a good-sized role in some of the future stories. Being the daughter of Dick and Tess, I suspect we’ll see that she’s a smart and strong young woman.

Under the current (post-Locher) continuity, how long has it been since Bonnie left the Tracy household?

Unless, of course, she comes under the Kadaver hammer and is part of the Vitamin Flintheart prophecy of loss …

I appreciate this character development side track. I have only been reading DT for a couple of years and learning the history and finding attachments to some of the characters keeps me involved. Thanks Joe and Mike for helping us “newbies” learn the history of DT.

Of course Bonnie Braids could go into the “family business,” either working for Tess at the detective agency, or becoming a cop. Then again I might have watched too many episodes of “Blue Bloods.”

It looks like one of Morrow’s loving comments to you put someone’s nose out of joint. Some people take life too seriously.

and i see people who oviously can’t just let typos go and feel the innate need to pick things to death.

josie.. joe sampson was bonnie’s bf/fiancee back when joe tracy was born.. the lil guy in todays strip is bonnie’s little brother joe
