This looks like the typical opening scene of most Columbo episodes. The would-be victim directly menacing theor prospective murderer. Clark should say those things to the District Attorney, not to Angus!
To respond to some comments made and questions asked yesterday:,In the county in which Tracy’s City is located, the county legislative body is called the Board of Commissioners. The commissioner in this case is a member of that board..The elected county official in charge of criminal prosecutions is called the “State’s Attorney,” the equivalent of what is called the “District Attorney” in other jurisdictions..The official title of a detective in the Sheriff’s Office is “Investigator.”
You see, Investigator Samuel L Jackson is covering up for Nightmare too. The horse and Angus are equal crime partners. If he gets caught and convicted, it’s the glue factory for Nightmare.
Jeff Clark doesn’t look like a nice guy. He looks tough. I don’t think it’s wise to get on his bad side. If Angus kills him, it will just be strong evidence that Angus is guilty. I don’t think that would be a good course of action, but I’m sure he’ll act before he thinks.
“Mary, we seem to have another trampling victim.. can you please call facililties and have Mr’ Clark’s remains removed? Thank you! Oh, and Mary.. NOBODY hears about this.. understand?” “Y-yes Mr Angus… anything you say Mr Angus… right away Mr Angus!”
“I mean, seriously, you had a woman killed by Nightmare for bringing eleven items to the ‘ten items or less’’ register!”.“It wasn’t just that, she also cut in line ahead of me!”
Later that night, Clark is walking down the street. Inside a dark alley is Nightmare, in a trenchcoat and fedora…The following morning, Tracy and Sam are looking at Clark’s remains, covered in the marks of horseshoes.“Looks like a random street crime, Sam. His watch and wallet are missing.”“What about those marks?”“Nothing important. He obviously was the loser in a pro-am horseshoe tournament.”
It’s a safe bet to say that between the two of them (Samuel L. Jackson and Nightmare), Nightmare is less likely to turn State’s Evidence against Angus. Adios, Mr. Jackson!
I have to ask: do you have a huge file of these things, waiting a special occassion, or do you search through Google for something new each day?I admire your dedication to your art.
I’m surprised Clark has lasted this long working for Angus if he is really as foolish as this! RIP, Mr Clark (found in a horse barn, trampled to death; “he must have been a horse thief.”)
Clark is unlikely to go to the police about Angus as he is an accomplice to murder himself. He might turn state’s evidence but his career would be over.

Panel Four: Closet door bursts open, Nightmare lunges out and stomps Clark to the floor.
This is why I can’t write serious comics.

Yes, it does…. thanks for the memories. Had that been StillDaMatt in the photo, he’d be behind the goat.____________________________
