More wonderful art. The silhouettes in panel two and facial expressions in panel three are especially good, with Annie’s “Leapin’ Lizards!” face taking the prize. .So, Kenyon was reported missing “some months ago” in present-day Tracyville. We know that Thunder Island is “Privately owned by the US Government…rumored to be the site of a nuclear accident in 1944, during the development of the Atomic Bomb, causing an evacuation of all personnel. [It is] currently leased to the private sector.” We do not know what, if any, lingering effects exist from this accident. That the island was evacuated in 1944 would account for the buildings and trappings dating from that era. .We also know that Axel is controlling the citizens of the island through mass hypnosis conducted with the Belinda radio show and decoder badges (and barber shop poles?!). Diet Smith is working on time travel with his project Blue Image. Warbucks states that Smith is not the only one doing this kind of work. There is as of yet no evidence that anyone’s time travel research has succeeded or resulted in sending our characters to 1944, but this possibility is in play..I’m enjoying this complex crossover very much. I’m not convinced that anyone has traveled back in time, but I applaud the audacity of putting the R+D on the table. Axel is using Kenyon to conduct research he would undoubtedly use for ill. It is in Axel’s interest for Kenyon to believe it is 1944 and that his work will be used to fight the Nazis. I don’t know why Annie was brought to the island, but will wager that Axel will be sorry she ever set foot there. What a great story!
