DJ isn’t the first person to have a badly translated tattoo, and I’m no expert in Spanish, but about the best translation I can come up with is “Action dirty terminated/finished cheap land/earth/soil” but even that has problems.

In Spanish, adjectives normally come after the noun they modify, so it should be “acción sucia” rather than “sucio acción” and “acción” is feminine, so it needs “sucia” rather than “sucio.” There is the same problem with “tierra barato” if it’s supposed to mean “dirty earth.” “Tierra” is feminine, so it would have to be “tierra barata.”

If it’s supposed to be “Dirty deeds are done dirt cheap,” as Pequod suggests, then it’s way off the mark. DJ needs to consult a qualified translator before tattooing such things on his chest!

I read of a guy who wanted “blood and guts” in Japanese on his arm. There’s no similar phrase in Japanese, so the tattooist came as close as he could. And now the guy’s arm reads “intestines.”

I like it. Right into the nitty-gritty of Havana. This spot is unknown to tourists, yet they know Wunbrow here. Tracy loosens up, letting Wunbrow take the lead on his home turf. DJ is a fine fun fellow and an AC/DC fan, as fhofmann says. Tracy tossed Bardoll off of the roof when push came to shove. Bardoll, a head taller than Tracy, could have stood in DJ’s shade. It would take a fork-lift to move DJ from his stance. Wunbrow buys cooperation, ending perspiration.

An interesting Hall of Fame entry. Thanks, Lt. Reimer! Thanks to blunebottle, Chris Sherlock, Willy007, Charlie (sorry to have missed your kind comments yesterday), Neil Wick, fhofmann, Vista Bill & Comet, JPuzzleWhiz and Jonathan K. for the kudos. Very much appreciated!

Pequod explains it in his opening line. DJ got it at the “AC/DC Tattoo Parlor”!

Never trust a tattoo parlour to do your translations. Tattoos are kind of permanent. You’re likely to be stuck with them for life, even if they’re wrong.

To clear up a couple of things about Harjit Sajjan that might not be clear from this brief biography, at least some of his military service was concurrent with his time with the Vancouver Police Department. He was a member of the British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught’s Own) having enlisted at age 19. The British Columbia Regiment is a primary reserve or militia regiment. His deployments in Bosnia Hercegovina and three deployments in Afghanistan were done while he was a reservist. He took a leave of absence from the Vancouver Police in 2006 for that deployment. (He is also one of the few Canadian soldiers permitted to wear a full beard. As a baptized Sikh he is required to not cut his hair including his beard.)

Odd bit of comics-related trivia about the above …

When Roger Corman and Oley Sassone were looking for someone to cast as The Invisible Woman in their ultra-low-budget Fantastic Four movie, one or the other – Oley, I believe – thought of an actress they’d seen guest-starring on an episode of The Hat Squad by the name of Rebecca Staab

Had a huge crush on her at the time.

As for the rest of what you said, it’s a part of the reason I don’t want tattoos, aside from “if I was meant to have such marks on my body, God would have given them to me upon my birth”.____________________

Asides from the physical pain and toxicity involved (… seems to me I’d read that one can’t, for example, donate blood for a certain time afterwards) they’re also difficult to erase.

Glad to hear the Canadians on this Board happy with Mr. Sajjan’s work so far. Guess there wasn’t enough space in the Hall of Fame panel to mention he had to get elected as a Member of Parliament representing Vancouver South before his Minister of National Defense selection. My neighborhood!

So, Wunbrow’s rather simple secret-speak in Spanish-speaking Havana’s seedier section is to speak French? And the rather ominous-looking giant DJ also speaks French (as well as money) by coincidence? I think it is wise of Tracy and Ivanov to stay in the background as Francesco quizzes Alberto and then confronts Alberto’s superior (in more ways than one), DJ….

Dirty deeds are done dirt cheap, the DJ plays his song

Well off of the beaten path, whatever could go wrong?

Wunbrow knows Alberto, puts his business in the street

Threatened with a prison cell, he sings a song so sweet.

Tracy pockets his red tie, seeks to keep his profile low

DJ makes his entrance, savvy behemoth in the know.

Towers over Wunbrow, DJ’s mass being prodigious

Foes fear to testify in court should matters grow litigious.

This DJ is bilingual, in many tongues he speaks

Foes tend to stay so silent when fluid quickly leaks.

At their feet a growing puddle, DJ doth laugh to see

His victims sending up a prayer, such is their quandary.

So if you meet him on the street don’t cross this man of stone

To raise a hand against DJ is to die fast and alone.

Dirty deeds are done dirt cheap, the DJ speaks in French

A lust for life and money that he never can quite quench.
