I’m wagering that the excitement will be more than the movie premiere!

OK, you Tracyites- where do we pick up Ms. Bruin and Sissy from? What’s the crossover? (And it weren’t no Shanda!)

Adam Austin was the pseudonym for Gene Colan when he started working for Marvel.

How many actors actually survived the making of “Midnight Mirror?”

Maybe the guy who played Flattop …?

I remember “Shanda”, we have the titular character herself — recognizable by her tell-tale hairstyle — as well as parental abuse survivor Sissy, also recognizable for the same reasons. I’ll be interested to see how Joe humanizes the series’’ rabbit and bat characters.

Incidentally, Lurch — mentioned off-panel in yesterday’s strip — was a Native American. Perhaps a relative of Chief Yellow Pony from the strip’s classic era?

For those who have forgotten or didn’t read the story of the making of Midnite Mirror, the movie is based on a very popular series of books by Adam Austin, who we are told today will be attending the premiere. I like to think of the books as something like the Harry Potter books: very well known, with something of a cult following, but these books are not likely aimed at younger readers. If you remember, each of the later Harry Potter book releases was met by many fans showing up at bookstores dressed up as their favourite character from the books, and I’m sure that also happened for the movie releases, but I was less aware of the movie openings.

I’m going to try to put together my list of the Midnite Mirror characters we’ve met before. They are a bit confusing because every character is the opposite (mirror image) of what you’d expect.

As I wrote yesterday, I am totally unfamiliar with Shanda the Panda comics, but I do like these humanized versions of (apparently) characters from that Mike Curtis-related comic. Shanda is cute, something like Honeymoon-grown-up. But Sissy I find even more attractive, smartly dressed and with pert nose and open eyes.

Getting more to the point of today’s storyline, however, it is Sissy’s remark that is the big Tell. Things are coming together, and the top is about to blow off this caper. Halloween will be the beginning of the end, methinks….

I remember a Batman comic back in the 70’s where he was working a case and visited the worlds biggest superhero halloween party to question some people and everyone kept compimenting him on how good he looked in his costume.

I watched the original series “Beauty and the Beast” and it was only during that time that the Homo Leo (Ron Perlman) could leave the underworld and walk among the people without fear of frightening them. A superb make up job for the 1980’s.
