    “Important” in what sense …?

I think he’s referring to the Minit Mysteries, something entirely new in the history of this strip. It’s a format change and thus “important.” They’ve only ever appeared in comic books before.

I think this is the official announcement that the Nitrates story is dead-fish-dead!

Chief of Police Pat Patton and Chief of Detectives Dick Tracy are going to take time off for the week of Thanksgiving, while a guest artist carries the ball with an 8-day, Sunday-through-Sunday “Minit Mystery.” Seems straightforward enough. Only Saturday (tomorrow) remains for any further wind-up to the Nitrates story, such as a scene of Susan and Adam in San Francisco….

I’m still very sick so I won’t be commenting on Saturday’s strip until daybreak, in case anyone is wondering.
