I think this is the longest clip from a Vista Bill movie that we’ve ever seen. Is that a tear in Vitamin Flintheart’s eye in the last panel? This is a very beautifully-drawn strip.
Being many years ago, and being the sidekick, I’d have thought that Vitamin/Blowhard would have looked much younger than this. Here the sidekick looks older than the hero.
Did they ever name the actor who played Vista Bill? It’d be a neat touch if they say that it was William Raley. :-)
Anyway, it’s a very nice tribute. We all know how happy Vista Bill would have been to see this.
It looks like it’s going to be worth waiting for this. Vista Bill rides again!
He is missed, and I wish he could have seen this. Rest in peace, Mr. Riaely. It’s worth the aggravation to change my icon for him. Excellent idea folks, and an enjoyable strip, Team Tracy.
Second panel is very cool. Vista Bill is caught just in the act of beginning to turn his horse, just as we have all seen countless times in Westerns. But drawing the action as a still, where we readers can actually feel the motion, is really skillful.
(I had to rewrite my first line, because I ran into that green check mark, and then it would not allow me to proceed with the rest of my sentence! What’s that all about?)
Looks like Bill is going to get a three day run in this strip, at least! Good, nobody deserves it more.
On a somewhat related note, I STILL cant change my avatar to the pic of Bill that I have saved on my laptop here at home OR my computer at work. Whenever I try to change it, the words “AVATAR” and “PROFILE NAME” (or whatever it is) are jumbled together above a box with a blue outline and I cant select either of them.
Anyone have any ideas on what is going on or if I can fix it?
I wonder what Joe thinks of the old black and white movies?
I was watching a black and white movie one day. My son, who was in another room, asked my 3-year-old grandson what grandpa was doing. My grandson said, “Grandpa’s in the living room watching a REALLY OLD movie.”
My son asked, “How do you know it’s a REALLY OLD movie?”
“Because everything is gray,” replied my grandson.

I don’t see it.
Now if I were to be picky which I’m not (insert snickering) in panel one Bill’s left hand is outside the horses and in panel two it’s inside the horses. Good thing I’m not picky! LOL!!

Sorry @Avenger09 as I told you before you look so hard to find error you make mistakes in doing so. Inside, outside how can you tell? And changed positions both of angle and motion can confuse. And you look too hard to find it and so your confirmation bias kicks in HARD.
Night-Gaunt49 I’ll go through this nice and slow,,,,Panel #1 VB’s holding the reins in his left hand which is farthest from Hopalong Cassidy. Panel #2 he’s still holding it in his left hand which is closest to Hoppy.
22PH ABOUT 1 HOUR AGOVista Bill turned Comet around in panel #2. That was what KEN IN OHIO referred to above as drawing the action as a still, where we readers can actually feel the motion, is really skillful.
VB’s answer to the question in panel one is immediately said in panel 2. It’s simply not logical or rationale to think he turned his horse around before answering. It’s more believable that it’s a mistake in continuality.
Hey, someone could say between panels 1 & 2 they stopped off at the local McDonald’s for a big Mac and a McFlurry before they got back on their donkeys and VB answered the question. You can believe whatever you want, it’s just a comic strip.
More deserved tribute to Vista Bill. The strip does remind me of a song by Amanda McBroom, “Errol Flynn,” a tribute to her late father, the actor David Bruce, who regularly played sidekick to stars such as Flynn, John Wayne, & Ronald Reagan. Like this tribute, the song is poignant & moving, & a performance video can be found on YouTube..
Also, as a follow-up to my comment yesterday, Godzilla vs. King Kong is slated for release in 2020, the culmination of the big-budget revival of 1950s monster movies, which started in 2014 with Godzilla, followed by Kong Skull Island last year & next year’s Godzilla King of the Monsters,
Finally, I couldn’t let today pass without noting the passing of Art Bell, who kept me company on many late nights on the radio, & for those not aware of him, he was like the original X-Files.

Wise decision, not to have Blowhard pull a Chester from Gunsmoke here and refer to the hero as Mr. Bill… think about it…

I think that it is great that all of you are doing this for Vista Bill !
Especially the cartoonists creating great artwork to honor Vista Bill and make him part of the Dick Tracy friends and family !
