So. If Connie is Crustwood’s premiere social climber and display artist, why does she have the Pennys over for dinner? It won’t make her look good in the newspaper social column and they don’t care about her Swedish art glass. The only glass they are interested in is the one holding Joy’s Magic Bars, which they will make disappear like magic later on.
To my lovely wife, Dawn.Thank you for 30 WONDERFUL years.Thank you for 4 BEAUTIFUL daughters. Thank you for putting up with me.And one last thing.Honey if we ever get like these people. Please kill me.
And Mikie — maybe cos they’re big-time gossips. She wants everybody in town to hear about her elegant table… which must not even be her BEST stuff because she said it was only casual night. Plus, she knows they’re not sharp enough to question the provenance of her “Gucci Nockwear (?)” or to realise that Lord and Taylor don’t make catsup, so that black and white label is fresh off her inkjet printer.
I was just thinkin’ Connie shouldn’t worry about the Boda glass; Joy doesn’t want it. What she really did was empty the salt and pepper shakers into baggies in her purse while Burl exchanged the toilet paper rolls for the service rolls he took from the Exxon station.************Congratulations to Oddball and Dawn! I hope you have many more, and remember, grandchildren are the best revenge.
There were magic bars at our New Year’s Eve party and my wife’s brother spent the party on his back at the foot of the stairs. Every now and then he’d add to the conversation, but he could not get to his feet.
I think Susan got it right- because the Pennys are the biggest gossips in town and now I know who had that shopping cart full of “designer” labels because I knew it was not Joy and Burl- Connie is the one! I’m surprised Joy didn’t volunteer to fill her pan with other leftovers to “help with the cleanup”.
Of course, Joy should have in a good, kind world… left the magic bars on a plate so Connie could keep them if she wanted, and THEN taken her pan home to wash herself…. but that is not the Penny way. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ It is so very interesting seeing all the people from comics.com pick their avatars to represent them. The one thus far that was surprisingly different from what I was imagining is SusanSunshine’s avatar. It is VERY fitting and cute and appropriate for her username…. but the avatar I always envisioned for her was something along the line of a woman in a bonnet serenely sitting in a meadow of flowers on a bright, sunny day. I just find it fun and interesting to see the avatars we choose for ourselves.
Thank you, to everyone for the congrats.@Susan- She reads the comics, but doesn’t post comments.I like your avatar.@mikie2- I agree, grandchildren are great revenge. we have 3granddaughters. and we spoil them rotten.Thank you again, one and all.
OddBall — I’m glad Dawn saw it all, then, and Congrats again to you both. And to all who mentioned my avatar, thanks — it was a gift from Rodd Perry, of “Guy and rOdd”, the cartoonists of Brevity, of which I’m a huge fan.Someone asked when I’d get an avatar, and rOdd offered to draw me one. I was honored. It’s sort of a caricature of a photo I sent him. Pipe — I’m flattered.
Oh — and Kirk, since the Magic Bars I know are an incredibly rich combination of coconut, chocolate chips, graham crackers, and nuts, drenched in caramel butter, and undiluted sweetened condensed milk, most people I know can eat, if any, about 2 square inches. The three of them polished off half a pan. I’d be on the flppr like Cleokaya’s brother-in-law, clutching my stomach.BTW were you on Comics.com? And by any chance were you Kirkmouse?
Recently, the artist has been hiding a symbol or something drawn into the comic. Beside the words, “Find it” is a sign for cent. In the comic, the sign is beside the catsup bottle. Tomorrow, it could be an eye, or a set of lips…who knows what she’ll come up with next!
Susan, I agree- I thought cleokaya was referring to a Toklas recipe, but I was thinking of my healthy breakfast bars (I make for my daily use, and now need to cut up a few for my little parrot. They have so many good ingredients that I cannot afford to share often (a long list of fiber and nutrient rich items)._____________@ Crystal, Julie has almost always done the “find it” things; I’ve assumed they are for children. I prefer looking for the really funny notes, Tshirts, cups and “to do” lists. Quality of prints does not lend to detailed analysis.

Looks like the magic bars weren’t such a big hit. Difficult to know which is worse – the boorish Pennys or name brand Connie.

Connie looks so depressed! What, she expected better from the Pennys?
