OMG! Talk about damaged genes! Ask Timmy about L&O but make ‘em anyway. (As me about L&O and you’ll see a 72-year old track star.) Make sure T. reads his book, but get something from the “Great Performances” list for the TV; “Shrek” surely counts, doesn’t it? Ands then there’s Dale’s HS paper on The Little Engine that Could. Such thought, such depth. Amazing. Here’s a question, how does Joy know about movies with subtitles?
Yup. Timmy’s going to get liver & onions whether he likes it or not. We never had liver & onions when I was a kid, My Mom didn’t like it, so she wasn’t going to cook it.
I wish my teacher would have assigned a Hardy Boy mystery or a Star Trek novel over Treasure Island. Didn’t like the book or the movie.
I love Liver and Onions. When I was in ReHab for 6 months I found I could order meals from two deferent menues I could have Liver and Onions Twice each week.
I had high hopes for Timmy… but now he is saying he hates reading books like most all of the others in the family. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Susan… your comment (subtitles vs subtleties) was the best laugh for me this morning, thank you! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ One of the other things that I like is Julie having Timmy’s grandmother use the word “hafta”… I always cringe at the slurred-together conglomerations that are so common in speech. In the MidWest, it is more common than not that people say “fur” for “for”, and say “are” for “our”. Then there is the “hafta, coulda, shoulda, woulda” plus the numerous others all of you know and hear all the time. I am not exactly sure why these slurred mispronunciations bother me so, but they do… I work very hard to try to enunciate the full sound of words when I speak so as to avoid the above.
I was in a book club that only read books which were made into movies so in case you didn’t have time to read you could watch the movie. All of the women in the group were college grads
I agree with Pipe (and Susan) – I also thought Timmy was going to turn out better. I hope my grandkids will have read more than “required” by the time the finish their education. I still try to read more of the things I may have missed. Fried liver and onions are just great when I’m making a great pate for winter season- not otherwise!

Joy may not understand movies with subtitles, but she understands even less about movies with subtleties.

I’ve been teacher for 30 years. Unfortunately, I’ve seen my share of substitutes who share many of Joy’s “qualities”.

The selection of reading is starting to remind me of a former U.S. President. I can recall something about a Grasshopper.

Watching movies is like reading a book with pictures and sound! (And sometimes in 3-D!)

This comic is very funny but sloppy to the point of making you wonder.
