Leaky! Welcome back. You had us worried—again. To today, though. Doesen’t everybody recycle wrapping paper and bows, and greeting cards? We’re all suposed to be recycling, right?Which reminds me of an old Navy tale. Aviso: Not suitable for more sensitive audiences.Back in the day in San Diego, circa 1963, one of our young officers, a “Ring Knocker,” got married and he and his new bride rented a small house on a bluff overlooking the Pacific near Mission Bay. Idyllic. To save money (because of the high rent) they recycled birth control devices; washed them and hung them out on the clothes line for all to see. Saving money and bragging all at the same time! Made his dad the admiral proud, I’m sure.Good morning to all, and to all a Good Night!
Aloha Crustwood… Raining here…flash flood warnings….. Wind pushing water thru the window such that my feet are on a damp carpet… Found the smiley face……! ! ! .Their ideas are not really good at all…But I have noticed that those holiday gift bags do get recycled……. ! ! !.The real question is what’s in the gift box for DALE……? ! ? Is it his B-Day cup cake…. ? ? ?.
If anyone else were sitting in Burl’s chair, “What smells?” would mean, “What’s making that smell?”
But with Burl there, no doubt emitting his usual “perfume,” I read it as “What smells? I don’t smell anything!"
I think the red bits on the box top are just Julie’s little pictorial emphasis:Some surround the tiny re-used bow on the box……and some emanate from Marlene.
Joy stopped herself in mid-suggestion…. not wanting to point out that she had already followed it…..
But Marlene had already noticed… that’s also why her shirt says MYOB
And as for Burl’s suggestion….. don’t get me started!
Trying to make us buy CFL’s, they’ve already been making incandescent bulbs last half the time they used to…..
Old 60w bulbs were labelled 1500 or 2000 hours, but often lasted a year or two.
The 57w ones they’ve been selling instead say 1000 hours — and burn out in a few months.
Now they’ve sneaked in another reduction, relying on mathematical obfuscation….
New packages say .7 years, and in tiny print…. “at 3 hours usage per day.”
They think no one will bother doing the arithmetic…..but they’ve never met Susan Sunshine!
365 × 3 hours = 1095 hours in a year…. times point seven…. HEY… now they only last 766 hours!!
Whats all this talk of a wedding??I’m betting its VLDAZZLE and this BF of hers!!
She either has to get married or she saw the enormity of his “peccadillo” and is blackmailing him into marriage!!I would strongly suggest he use “protection” when she visits.
In either case………….she is a dangerous woman who bears watching!!!!!!!
Good morning! Good to see the gang’s all here, and Leaky, not ever me! One marriage was enough, but I got 4 great children from it (even my daughter) who is insisting that we all wear white for her 3rd wedding’s party. I just hope this is her last! My BF and I are too old to need or want the formality of marriage. We have fun without.Looks like the box is reused from Sears (so Dale will think he’s getting a useful hand tool, or such). I don’t know why the emphasis lines around marlene, but the bow is obviously reused.
I have managed to buy some longer lasting lights, Susan, and I have a CFL on my front stoop because changing it on a small stoop at that height is challanging. I don’t like CFLs because they’re ugly and disposal is a problem. I used fluorescents in parts of the kitchen and entire garage. I doubt that there will be a strip where Burl opens his present; should we speculate on it? I think since it’s from Burl and Joy, it is something recycled such as one of the items from their garage that Goodwill refused.
The young model on a Nordstoms ad is wearing the dress that I am duplicating in white silk (theirs was partially silk and in an off black “caviar” color, but I liked the style). Price for that dress is $1500; mine will be well under $200 with the entire neckline trimmed with Swarovski 3/8" crystals in a sterling chain. That 200 may even include some new shoes ;-D

Well, I’m just glad we were all spared from Dale’s idea. 3 stupid ideas is more than enough for one day.

And Aloha, GymShoe — just wanted to say the Place de la Musique looks wonderful!
I looked at every page and saw no information about how to visit (not that I’ll be in Illnois any time soon, but I was curious)….
Then I watched the video, which was the best part….
They said it’s not open to the public, so you have to attend a charitable event there to see it.
I’d need a 3-day event!

Wonder what the “present” is: re-gift, leftover from a U-Stor-It cleanout or a Dollar Dump special?
bubujin_2 Premium Member over 12 years ago
The gift is obviously a box of reusable gift bows. Heaven forbid Dale receives something brand new. That would cost money.

How about a comic strip that isn’t about idiots? Oh, wait, there’s 9 Chickweed Lane. Ask and you shall receive.
