Patty must have an old CRT monitor if she can set a coffee cup on it. Ever time I try that why my flat screen it dumps right into my ѿӁזऎଐ

Not to worry, Patty, the only thing that happened was one file was corrupted. The one titled “Doctoral Dissertation.” No problem otherwise.

BTW folks, tomorrow is July 14, or Quatorze Juillet, which the French celebrate as their Independence Day like we do July 4th. Go out and get some Champagne and french fries. Remember, they are our oldest ally. If it hadn’t been for their money and military support, we would be British subjects today. French Enlightenment thinkers like Rousseau, Voltaire and Montesquieu—and yes Brits like Locke and Hume—provided the intellectual basis on which Jefferson and Madison wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

    Vive la France!

    Gooood Morning Crustwood!

Well, yeah, it doesn’t seem like such a great morning for Patty….sigh….

I’m thinking… hoping…. this is just the old desktop computer that she left in her old bedroom for when she visits the folks…she’s gotta know anything she leaves there is endangered.Julie has said she tries to set the strip in the 1990’s, even though she has had the characters mention dates in this century…at least it might explain why Patty doesn’t bring a laptop when she visits.

Then again, I was just staying with someone, and using her 2001 e-machines desktop with a 17" CRT cos I don’t have a laptop; maybe Patty doesn’t either. In any case I hope in spite of her Penny genetic material, she’s at least bright enough not to work on important documents anywhere within 50 feet of her parents.Make that 50 miles.

X — Hmmm… CERN can shut down the WWW …but the whole internet?

I thought without the web we’d just go back to the internet looking like telnet.

In any case, I…um….I guess it doesn’t matter to me any more …. sigh….cos I sniffle already got to THE END

I noticed Patty has a BA in science. Wow, and still stays around her parents?

I wouldn’t be as worried about the computer being unplugged while on as much as I would my dad holding one of the circuit boards. That may even be the Motherboard. Uh, oh.

A real close up view of the family picture is quite telling. Somehow, the baby has a look of either bewilderment or terror on it’s face (kind of like a Twilight Zone set-up). It’s as if she knew.

Brain bleach alert! You can still plug it back in, reboot it and it will be fine. Just turn off the monitor when you’re done, if you insist on wasting electricity overnight. Patty should know better than to trust her parents when they’re around her stuff.

@Susan – I think they are at Patty’s place. The living room furniture looks different and I don’t think the Pennys have a palm tree (real or fake) in their parlor.

I think it is Patty’s place too; why would her diploma be hanging at their house. Also as the monitor is old I thought Burl just had his hand on the tower, saying it felt hot..Thinking further, looks rather like a small dorm with a shared living room, so Patty may be in Grad School.

Letting Burl at her PC reminds me of my daughter’s first visit here- grand daughter was just a tot and daughter installed a couple of programs to amuse her on my PC- I wound up haveing to restore a lot of settings – almost taking a trip to the techs.

I do think this must be Patty’s (aka Patricia’s) apartment in Graduate School. It looks too modern for Burl and Joy. It would be very interesting to know what she is studying.

i don’t get it. just turn it back on. duh. after a sudden system power-cut on Unix, fsck shouldn’t take more than 20 seconds (on a 2TB hd). this must be an old doorstop box like DOS 3.0 that took half an hour just to boot up normal.
