Well, a gallon of ice cream is OK with me, although I’d have to be really, really blue to go to that extreme. But for Joy to inflict herself in a bathing suit on an innocent and unsuspecting public approaches a crime against humanity. I’d need more than a gallon of ice cream to overcome that. I might have to add dark chocolate. Or go nuclear and call Leaky for a gallon of gumbo!

This is exactly what is wrong with some people, they self-medicate with food.

A better way to beat the blues is get out of the house, go for a walk, preferably at the mall.

Go and volunteer you time at the Animal Shelter or the Hospital.

Be a school “buddy”. You listen to children reading out loud and assist with art projects. (I did this at my grandson’s school when he was in first grade, so much fun!)

Don’t eat! And never, never try on bathing suits! EVER!

People feel blue for all different reasons…and take things in all different ways….

What seems trivial to one person may be life-shaking to another….or what one person can deal with in a certain way may be impossible to another.Even appetites vary… from people to whom food is a necessary nuisance to those who feel faint at the mention of an hour wait for lunch….and some of the latter are thin. I know it’s “wrong” to self-medicate, be it with food, alcohol, drugs, etc…but I try to remind myself that we really can’t judge another person’s pain.If someones way of coping interferes with me, or others…. interferes, … not simply “annoys me by existing” … I have a right to protest the behavior or remove myself from it….Sure, I make fun of the Pennys. They’re insensitive, greedy, selfish pigs…It’s not merely because they’re fat…. But I feel like I have to say….people’s depression and their food issues can be complex…. they don’t magically disappear because a friend or even a doctor tells them to buck up, or not to eat.

I mean… look at Verla. She’s blue because some syndicate colorist made her that way.She has no idea why and no control.

I just want to add: ice cream is the way to go!!

…and do not EVER go to Sears and try on bathing suits!

…and let’s ALL remember…..this is a COMIC STRIP!…not to be taken seriously! Not today…not EVER!

and one more thing: I used to LOVE that Tricorn hat…..I wonder what ever happened to it………

The real joke in today’s strip is the idea of trying on bathing suits – disgusting and gross. You don’t DO that.

I prefer to make a swimsuit. I cut one out after I got home Sunday and finished it before the realtor took photos yesterday. A nice halter-style one-piece in bright blue that I chose to cut with legs low cut (not high on my hips) and I brought bust pieces a little past the side seam. It’s very becoming and I’ll get a lot of use from it. I also made the ties just a tad longer than my size to allow for double knots, since the indoor pool is public in Sun City (but no children) ;-)

Back in the 70s I made the pink one I wore here (and I was 10# heavier than now) and it had a matching skirt.

But that one was cut high on the hips. I used a pattern for my new one, Kwik Sew #3503 that fits sizes XS to XL, so I traced a tissue pattern to use with my own measurements (mostly size S with 1/2" shorter in torso). Fit perfectly and a lot less work than shopping a whole bunch of stores looking for one I like in the right color.

AND I have a sheer cover-up in blue with flowers and square silver sequins on entire hem.

……..Joy meant: eat the gallon of ice cream and THEN go straight to Sears and try on bathing suits………Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! I suddenly feel a wintry draft that could bode no good for the faint of heart…..or stronger types either, once they behold Joy stuffing herself into swimwear…….it’s probably like that two-way full length mirror in that cheesy movie “Malibu Bikini Shop”…………….Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Yes, time is passing, but I’ll still gather the daisies while I may. When I can’t enjoy life to the fullest, there’s no reason to hang around. ;-D
