There is a laundry chute right outside the main bathroom in my house. Saves a lot of trips up and down the stairs. I have bad knees, so that is really good. As for being in shape, I am. I walk at about 3.5 MPH for 30 minutes twice a day as well as all the gardening and yardwork.
