Gotta give them a little ( a very little) credit…
They are letting the fellow eat there, and food is very precious to the Pennys.
I hate myself for wondering…. but considering that we’re talking about… you know… the Pennys..
Do you suppose that while they stuff themselves with turkey, stuffing, two kinds of potatoes…. half a dozen more side dishes and three kinds of pie…
Their “guest” gets the remains of Tuesday’s canned baked beans, noodles and hot dog chunks casserole?
After all, they won’t want it still taking up room in the refrigerator when they’re trying to stuff in all the Thanksgiving leftovers.
And Burl did say “giving” … not “sharing.”
On a happier note….
I found the picture hanging on their wall!
It’s by Eugen Hartung (1897-1973), and was originally published as an Alfred Mainzer postcard… apparently those used to be famous.
(I love Google)
