When I got some new appliances a few years ago they were packed with some Styrofoam. I was unsure about recycling, so I waited until I had time to look it up. A neighbor told me to take it to the recycling center. I said, “And which bin do I put it in?” He said, “Plastic.” I said I didn’t think so, but he was quite adamant about it, so I assumed he had done it before. I did the research, and Styrofoam is not really recyclable in small amounts like I had. He must have made a mess out of the bin he put his in. Put the wrong stuff in recycling, and a lot of stuff that is recyclable can end up in the trash as a result of residents’ lack of sorting properly. At least that is how it works where I live. I don’t have enough to recycle here for me to get a bin at my home for pick up, so I drop off at the local place or put mine in a neighbor’s bin, with their permission. The bins are solid plastic. No need for extras that in my case would not be filled for a year. Yes, I did let the neighbor know not to put Styrofoam into the plastic recycling bin.
