The atmospheric temperature may drop, but assuming you are not in shadow, the apparent radiant energy of the sun increases as you leave the atmosphere and hence the wax would have melted (of course flying in no atmosphere might prove a greater challenge, but hey, it’s ancient Greece we’re talkin’ about).
