This is where I get into trouble with most of my relatives…

What else do you put into the Pet Food?

I have a wild cottontail living in the backyard. Fortunately, only one.

Recently saw an episode of PBS series, Nature, featuring rabbits. Before mating cottontails mate they goes thru a mating dance called cavorting.

I see Snowshoe hares on my walks behind my house. The population never seems to get out of hand because we also have foxes in the area.

186 sounds like a lot, but rabbits are prey and are food for a variety of other animals.

Our neighborhood dog keeps the rabbits at a sufficient population.

My beagle loves to hunt rabbits, but is always on a leash when outdoors. I do allow her to lightly track a scent, it’s in her genes to do it, but she is not allowed to hurt anything or even get close. I got her as an adult from a hunter, and it turned out that my girl is actually gifted in other ways. She is now a certified therapy dog due to her unquenchable love of people and babies and incredible patience with them. She also is known to request treats from anyone who normally has them, but accepts no as an answer. My comment was going to be that rabbits are nothing like pandas when it comes to reproducing!

And pandas have a generally poor rate of reproduction. Fortunately, the 22-year-old panda at the National Zoo gave birth last night. She had been artificially inseminated with 5-year=old frozen sperm.

They need to reproduce a lot to feed the predators, you don’t.

Is it the Neuter or the 186 terrifying the poor little fella?
