Woman: Still no good? Man: Amy, this tankard's even worse than your earlier ones! Woman: It'd look better if I could do it in silver, Paul... Man: Silver?! You're nowhere near ready, Amy! The contours on that piece are just abysmal! Woman: Paul, it only looks that way because it's cast in pewter! Pewter is so ugly and dull and lifeless! It just sits there! But silver! Silver winks at you from across the room! Man: Melt it down, Amy.
Admittedly in some mediums, cheap materials really do make worse work (watercolor, f’erinstance) but honestly it’s best not to get too precious the first…. oh, couple dozen times.
Spring for decent brushes, tho. Not GREAT brushes, but decent. The cheap ones spit up bristles everywhere. Just make sure it’s cheap enough you wont cry if one gets acrylic dried in it….
