Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for April 19, 1979

Man: Rick, I don't see why you're so put out by Brown. The guy's been a very progressive force in California! Why, look at the farmworkers' bill he introduced! Rick: Duane, I hate to burst your bubble, but Chavez had the farmworkers so well organized that Brown had no choice. The only reason he wrote the bill, which was no different from Chavez's, was so that he could take the credit for it! Man: You really believe he's that cynical? Rick: Duane, who gave us, "blacks are the wrong symbol for the 1970s"? Man: Hey, c'mon, man, they have been quiet. He was just teasing them!
