Today in Washington, the Senators behind "Operation Manhood" wound up their first day of hearings... after only two hours of testimony, panel members came surprisingly close to agreeing on the hardline linkage package they expect to send to the White House. Only last minute pangs of conscience prevented Senator Church from endorsing Senator Dole's resolution calling on the President to "lead the country to the brink of nuclear confrontation." The resolution was sent back to committee for rewording.
