Senator: Mrs. Gorsuch, are you familiar with your Congressional mandate? Mrs. Gorsuch: To serve business, Senator? Senator: To serve the environment, Mrs. Gorsuch? Mrs. Gorsuch: Oh, sure, right! I just forgot there for a moment. Senator: It's only a small toxic waste dump, but it could cost my company millions to clean it up! Millions that otherwise could be invested in exploration! All universal petroleum is asking for, Mrs. Gorsuch, is that the E.P.A. ease up a bit and call off those eager beaver Carter holdovers who keep threatening to bring suit against us! Mrs. Gorsuch: Mr. Andrews, let me be very candid with you. I was appointed to protect and serve our environment. Needless to say, it is a responsibility I take very seriously. Senator: Hee, hee! Yes, I've heard. Mrs. Gorsuch: Make no mistake about it, the nation speaks with one voice when it comes to clean air and clean water. Quite simply, the people want it, and so do I! Senator: You do? But...but...I thought you were on our...uh...that is. Oh, I see, very good. Yes, I'm for all those things, too!
