Nate: It's definately getting there...do you think the "T" in "the" needs more work? Man: Hmm...possibly another curlicus....Nate, we're just not in a position to alienate Pinckney or Rutledge! We need their support! Nate: But don't you see, if the black man isn't free, then none of us is! What does it say about our committment to equality if we allow slavery to become inextricably part of the southern economies? Man: Nate, I agree, But be reasonable! Georgia and the Carolinas went along with the representation compromise. Do you want to risk secession, jeopardizing everything the convention has accomplished? Lord...two o'clock in the morning already... Nate: and not a whit closer to resolving the issue! Man: Oh hell, let's leave it to future generations. Nate: Good idea, it'll make them feel more involved.
