How could you vote against a ban on semi-automatic assault rifles? Person: I like being in Congress. Person 2: The gun lobby is too powerful. Person 3: In a close election the gun nuts can kill you. Person 4: The N.R.A. scares me to death. Person 5: I'm afraid they'll target me in '90. Person 6: I'm afraid not to go along with them. Person 7: I believe that private ownership of weapons designed to kill large numbers of people is good. Person 8: Er...I'm also facing a tough election. Mark: Hey, U.S. lawmakers! How could you vote for an anti-flag-burning amendment? Person 1: I'm afraid. Person 2: I'm afraid.
Unfortunately, #7 is all too realistic these days.
