Mike: Hmm...time for Poppy's press conference... George Bush: You like me! You really like me! Right? Interviewer: Mr. President, as you approach the end of your first year, what would you say is your finest achievement? George Bush: That's an easy one - my popularity achieved great popularity, which I'm kind of proud of. Oh, sure, I could have sought people's respect instead of their approval, but hey, I'm comfortable with the approval thing. It's just the way I am. And I'm not going to change, unless people want me to. Not that it's been all ringers. Sometimes you mistakenly take an unpopular position, but you learn from your mistakes. You switch to the popular position, unless there isn't one. Then you take no position so you'll still be popular. Of course, you can't just live in the present. Whenever I make a tough decision, one of those close calls you hear about, I think about our legacy. I worry about future generations! Interviewer: You do? George Bush: Sure. I think "what about my grandchildren? Will they be popular? Will they be as well-liked?"
