Mr. Butts: Members of the jury - let's remember what the executives really said! They said they "believed" tobacco to be safe and non-addictive! With perjury, the issue is intent! The issue is whether the Tobacco Lords knew they were lying! I submit they couldn't have known! No one could live with himself if he thought he was peddling a product that killed millions!
