Transcript:
Barack Obama: Are these people for real, David? David Axelrod: It's all about the election outcome, sir... the actual facts don't really matter to them. Birthers are bitter, disappointed and in complete denial. Obama: Hunh. They sound like Cubs fans. Axelrod: Similar dynamic, yes.

That’s a low blow in Chi-town. Northsiders will be ticked off. It’ll get their goat.

And then get over it.

Although I don’t think Cubs fans should be dragged into this, poor things. ;-)

The Ballad of Barack obama To the tune of Davy Crockett
Born on a mountain top in ol‘ Hawaii, Birthers say it wasn’t in the land of the free. Parents had a plan, he‘d be president you see, Subvert democracy, swindle you and me.
Barack, Barack Obama had a racist over for a beer.
He went of to Congress and served a spell Fixin’ up the government and laws as well. Took over Washington, I heard tell, And told all the conservatives to go to hell.
Barck, Barack Obama, a man all the white folks fear.
Socialism was his goal, Sarah said you see Much to the detriment of you and me The death panels had not even begun. So he packed the Supreme Court, said it was fun
Barack, Barack Obama, selling us out with a leer.

Unfaif! The birthers aren’t that crazy.
lewisbower about 15 years ago
The Cubs are in the same position the Red Sox were in for 83 years. Don’t pick on loyal fans. They might come back and bite you.. Who knows, those birthers may prove a certain liberal president was from Mars. There’s an alien

Hence, it is not serious after all.

“Birthers?’ The man is a liar, a racist, a Marxist, and he doesn’t know squat. He thinks doctors get 30,000, 40,000 , 50,000 dollars to amputate a foot.
He threw his grandmother under the bus (that’s all right, she was white) and you’d think the hospital he was born at would be known because they’d be celebrating it!
By the way, under what Passport did Baraaacck travel to Pakistan with in 1981?
K-Bach about 15 years ago
Euthuno, aside from being a raving racist (avatar included), have you any references or evidence for your ludicrous diatribe?

But at least he’s not Hillary. . (joke!)

Don’t ask Hillary about Bill. Scary. I’ve seen rabid dogs more calm.

Birthers, Cubs fans and MOST SOUTHERNERS [especially the ones who still fly the STARS AND BARS of St. Anthony} are all the same. Denial and Losing is their game!
ChiehHsia about 15 years ago
Barack Obama was born at the Kaiser Permanente hospital in Honolulu, which is not on a mountaintop (unless you count the entire island as a mountain), and there’s never been any secret about it. Big effing deal.
Euthuno, I don’t like to flame in these comments, but you are definitely a racist idiot and yet another embarrassment to the human race… as if we needed any more to be embarrassed about.
bradwilliams about 15 years ago
WOW! Such intense comments for a comic. I was just impressed how he tied in the home town crowd.

“MOST SOUTHERNERS [especially the ones who still fly the STARS AND BARS of St. Anthony}”
The Stars and Bars was the first national flag of the Confederacy, and was based on the USA”s Stars and Stripes.. Various versions can be seen here:
http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/us-csa1.html
The Confederate battle flag employs a design based on the St. Andrew’s (not St. Anthony’s) Cross featured on the Scottish flag:

There may be some folks who don’t like Obama being president, but I’ve never met any conservative who is “bitterly disappointed” and in “complete denial” that McCain lost the election.
He just wasn’t worth getting that excited about.
S_T_F_U about 15 years ago
The description of the birthers in the 2nd panel sounds familiar. What about all the Bush stole the election from Al Gore, Bush is evil, Bush is an idiot, GW never went to National Guard duty, etc etc etc… That went on for Bush’s whole administration. Some people have a short and selective memory…

the jerk with the rebel flag is just trolling through here to stir up the waters don’t rise to the bait……. the best response is to simply ignore it
saw4fire about 15 years ago
And the Obama administration is in complete denial of the obvious: Produce a birth certificate, and this goes away!
Instead, they resort to ridicule, and arcane legalisms. That only serves to make the suspicious people more suspicious.
The Obama administration has struck its Titanic iceberg on health care, and the birther business won’t matter. Only Obama could manage to make Jimmy Carter look good.
Paudil about 15 years ago
We Cubs fans are well aware that the Cubs are going to continue to lose in the post-season. We are not bitter, nor are we in denial. We simply remain loyal to our team.
rottmom about 15 years ago
As I die-hard Cubs fan (been since I was 5 yo) I find this hilarious.
Relax, its all in fun.
Nemesys about 15 years ago
saw4fire, you raise an obvious point. You’d almost think that this whole “birth certificate” issue was deliberately made mysterious as bait so that Gary and etc. would have a handy supply of people to sneer at during times when the ‘Bomster” found himself in hot water… and this is definately one of those times that a distraction comes in handy.
Either way, it’s a non-issue.

Birthers are just sore losers.
drhibbitts3 about 15 years ago
I am still sorely disappointed that I haven’t heard any of the media pundits claiming falsified State of Hawaii documents referring to the President as “President McLovin”. (Ignore the terrible “Superbad” movie referrence) Ah well, there’s still hope for Glenn Beck to catch on, if his show stays viable without sponsors…
KenyarJad about 15 years ago
Oddly, I could believe that comment to have come from Obama. He is a White Sox fan, after all…
@saw4fire - you WERE around for the guy right BEFORE Obama, right? HE made Andrew Johnson look good.
misterwhite about 15 years ago
saw wrote: “And the Obama administration is in complete denial of the obvious: Produce a birth certificate, and this goes away! ”
They did, it has gone away (except for a small number of lunatics, the same people who believe Elvis is alive and well and singing in a lounge on Alpha Centauri’s 3rd planet).
The cool thing about this birther business is that if it wasn’t for the birthers hope that they could overturn the election of Obama, they would be blowing up federal buildings like they did in Ok City.
Better to keep them busy squealing about BCs than murdering innocents.
Yuseff about 15 years ago
Saw4fire how many times does Obama have to produce the bleeep thing. Copies of that birth certificate have circle the earth like three times now and you people still claim it doesn’t exist.
Yuseff about 15 years ago
Point well made, misterwhite.

Joe Allen Doty:
Why do you complain about people breaking the rules? Doesn’t it make the point for Garry? I think he loves that he’s evoking these opposing responses.
To me it confirms the state of our nation, that we just don’t want to admit. At least we don’t have to worry about being shouted down here. We all get our opportunity to vent, no matter how ridiculous our opinions.
jestrfyl about 15 years ago
I sort of expected M. Trudeau to have a White Sox flag flying under the stars & stripes.
BlueRaven about 15 years ago
Jimpow, that is not how Obama identifies so your remark is completely off base.
I am also getting to where I flag birthers as well as racists… but I repeat myself.
NashvilleMac about 15 years ago
Tigger - Whatever you do, don’t ask me; I voted for Obama. And that’s coming from a 47 year resident of Tennessee. So please stop trying to come off like you’re the mouthpiece for an entire state. It’s impolite. :)
Bob Hasty - I’d appreciate it if we could avoid the regionally biased overgeneralizations. I know thousands of Southerners - myself included - who do not exhibit the intellectual rabies you describe.
4deerinmyyard about 15 years ago
Warthog, you are frequently funny. Often crude, but at least amusing. Sometimes you try just a little too hard and it falls flat; you don’t always seem to have a good range on the difference between edgy and offensive.
For example, I cannot quite tell whether you intend the ditty above as a sardonic parody of the racists’ ridiculous stance, or whether you actually subsscribe to part or all of it. You see what I mean about not communicating clearly?
Please clarify.
NashvilleMac: “Intellectual rabies”: good one; I think I’ll swipe it.
wndrwrthg about 15 years ago
4deerinmyyard. I was shooting for funny, but will settle for amusing. I thank you for the response, and do apologize for any confusion i cause. I should have added another verse but my muse deserted me. I am an unashamed liberal who believes in the social values of this country as set forth in the preamble to the constitution. I in no way believe in the nonsense of the “birther” movement.
jaiel about 15 years ago
We are not in denial. We live all over the world!
4deerinmyyard about 15 years ago
Wonder: Thanks so much for the serious reply. I was sure – okay I was hoping – something like that would be the answer; but the song ended on kind of a WTF? note.
Either that, or my sensahumor has been stretched too thin around here lately.
Anyway, you’re forgiven for slammin’ Kansas a while back! :-D
