Lucky escape for Jeff, then.

@Joe
Your story clearly illustrates the difference between a comic strip and a real war. I wish more people in government (Dem and Rep) could perceive that difference.
Instead, on both sides of the aisle they seem to get all puffed up with patriotic fervor and think they’ve done something great when they decide that other people’s kids need to be placed in harm’s way.

Wow. Just wow. Why can’t Melissa be a crew chief and the big lady be the shop chief? This is 2010, fer crissakes!
TheWildSow almost 15 years ago
The “big lady” has a name – it’s Roz.

Lot of stories like that, Pk. Heck, they keep on going too. I get a call about ten years ago from a friend of my kid, and he’s in a cold panic. He was in a field engineer unit training in the States, and his squad was screwing around with overloading demo charges to see who could make better booms. He’d overpacked one, and a casing fragment caught one of his squaddies and pretty much cut her in half. He was sure he’d be busting rocks, but it wound up the same as with Joe’s anecdote; he was busted to private, reprimanded and kept on.

Because after about 10 years, Melissa will be “the big lady”. Make it 5 years if she’s stationed in Germany, the land of stein and schnitzel.
There’s a reason I fondly refer to my former duty station as “Der Fatterland”. When I first landed at Ramstein I weighed 97 lbs soaking wet. When I left, well, let’s not go there. ;-7

A crew chief is a chopper mechaninc. They own the bird, the pilot just flies it. They maintain it on the ground and crew it in the air.

Isn’t Roz busting the army weight standards? Hey, just a thought. she looks like she may be related to Toggle’s mom!

Hey Dypak- you have not responded to my post from Friday concerning your post.
puddleglum1066 almost 15 years ago
fbjsr, you really need to check your (or would you say you’re?) grammar and spelling… It’s terribly embarrassing when you make an obvious mistake in the middle of insulting somebody else’s intelligence.
jpozenel almost 15 years ago
You are correct Dypak!
My brother was a helicopter crew chief and so was one of my co-workers. The crew chief is an on-board mechanic.

It’s so obvious where this story arc is going. Trudeau is upset with President Obama for expanding the fighting in Afghanistan, so he’s going to have Obamacover up what happened to the helicopter in exactly the same manner as Bush covered up what happened to Pat Tillman. President Obama is so concerned with how this will be seen that he will personally go over and brief every person in theater and make up the story himself. Sounds abusrd doesn’t it? So is any reference to Bush covering up the Pat Tillman incident. The military does such things independently of who occupies the Oval Office.

Havoc is driving Jeff away from the scene and Melissa is going to do a field repair on the helicopter, so it looks to me that the only way they could meet is if Mel and Roz drive to the helicopter.

stebon said, about 6 hours ago What happened to all those horrible rapists and murderers that inhabit our military in Iraq and Afghanistan? ————————————— You don’t really think the military is full of rapists and murderers, do you? It is unfortunate that it does indeed happen, yes. But officers and NCO’s are dedicated to tracking that sort of thing down and eliminating it. The government, Democrat or Republican, has nothing to do with it. People who believe this kind of garbage are sad. They’ll listen to any lie that makes them feel better and superior to someone else.

Delta Eagle - I didn’t post Friday, not sure what you’re talking about.

———————————– Amen! People will think and believe any lie the media tells them. It doesnt matter if it comes from CNN, Fox News or the National Enquirer. No one takes time to think about anything rationally. We all just freak out and run around like idiots. Personally I think there is enough dirt on both Bush and Obama to never trust another politician again. We don’t need to make up make stuff up, what they do is bad enough. Well said, MissingNOLA!

randgrithr, nice pun, but it would be ‘Das Fatterland’, not ‘Der’. That said, most of the fat people I meet here are Americans (we have a lot of them here). Germans are not usually that fat. Also, I’ve never seen anyone drink from a Stein who was not a tourist.

I’m with CA Quercus. Cheney and Bush are at BEST a disgrace to our nation and what they have done to our military and our Constitution is nothing short of criminal. They both need to swing in the Hague for war crimes.

A long time ago, when I was both young and in the USAF, I was a KC-135A Crew Chief, and that bird was MINE when it was on the ground. The OMS squadron was separated into branches for bombers and tankers.
