Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for June 19, 2011
Transcript:
Flower: Not there, dummy - to the right! No, no, not there! Too much sun! You're trying to kill me, aren't you? Zonker: I'm seriously considering it, yes. Man: So you think I could get my Mercedes back, Zonk? Zonker: Well, of course, Chester - I was just keeping it for you. Man: Thanks, man... not getting raptured has been a bit of a setback for me - I didn't have a Plan B. I quit my job, sold my house, gave away my stuff. My wife went back to her family. Now I'm out of money and will have to live in my car until I can get my life back. Zonker: Well, it's not the end of the world, Chester. Man: I know! It's so disappointing!

Best. Comic. Strip. Ever. Not just the best Doonesbury, but the best, period. But don’t worry, Chester, you only have to live in your car till October 21.

…or you could click on the “Collectible Print” link on the right. Once there, click on the comic to view it larger.

I had to use the same trick as with Cul de Sac – go to the right where they’re selling prints, and click on that, then enlarge it.
Love the punchline!

Did the Doonesbury gang get raptured???
Sandfan over 13 years ago
I had to go elsewhere to see the strip, too. I wonder if Gocomics appreciates the irony of the first Doonesbury collection being titled Still A Few Bugs In The System?

I wondered why gocomics is slow loading this morning.my wonders have ceased

Well, it’s certainly a nice strip, when you get to see it.. can there REALLY be people in America so silly they behave like that man did??!
justalurkr over 13 years ago
The strip is a lie today.
Mary Morris over 13 years ago
At least some of you are still getting your emails. Mine stopped about 2 weeks ago and I still can’t get an answer…
justalurkr over 13 years ago
Should have read all the comments and gone to http://www.doonesbury.com/strip before opening my mouth. Zonker is indeed a decent human being.

PSA for people not getting their strip via e-mail: CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER AT THE WEB INTERFACE. I found nearly a month’s worth in there.

It’s not just Chester, think about the the egg on Camping’s face. For him, it just about was the “end of times”. He had a stroke recently. If he can hold on until Columbus Day, he should be OK, by his calculations.

TravelerMarjorie told you how to do it so that you can see it without leaving here.

Well, people were complaining about not being able to zoom the Sunday strips….As Oscar Wilde said, there are only two tragedies in life. One is not getting what you want. The other is getting it…

Bad choice of words, Zonker.

I checked several newspapers – in some “this feature is not available” in others Doonesbury appears as usual. In the past certain papers have censored Doonesbury our of fear of back lash because of the theme. Is Go Comics engaging in censorship? Today’s strip deals with the fact that the world did not end on May 21. It is ironic, a bit sad, and very witty.

I didn’t get it in my email either, so many thanks for the top about the link on the right.

You bet LARGE! All my comics today except for the first two I read are huge! Read this one in morning paper so was glad to get comments here.

For Apple users: I just saved it on my iMac by holding down the Control key while clicking the image and choosing that from the drop-down menu. The saved image can be viewed with Preview which has a negative Zoom (shrink) feature.
brian1951 over 13 years ago
I can’t see it either. Maybe instead of Firefox it will work with IE?
george_gall over 13 years ago
Try right click on the empty box under the the title and open in a new window.
belongtwo over 13 years ago
how come I can’t see the comic? It is too big to fit on the screen and no way to move the picture.
Jalitha over 13 years ago
Right click, and choose “Open Strip in New Window” in order to see it small enough to read.
(For me, it’s so huge that the name reads as “Doon” and only a tiny bit of the left hand panels are visible.)

I wonder how long it will take for people to figure out that King Abdullah ll’s GoComic user name is Charlie Tuba?
benbrilling over 13 years ago
In my case (Safari browser) I get the left maybe 10% of the comic humungously enlarged.

The Rapture DID happen on schedule. Certain people simply can’t believe they weren’t called.
Malcolm Hall over 13 years ago
I thought that the Rapture happend, but nobody was called. Then they had a debate in New Hampshire to find the Antichrist. Apparently the Last Days are going to take a while.
FCZ over 13 years ago
It is noted that, although certain people have had no trouble seeing this strip, for others, it has been simply blank.
Those of us who could see the strip are truly sorry that you weren’t raptured with us. Just in case, I wouldn’t buy a lot of winter clothes…*
Further noted: if my tongue were any further in my cheek, I’d starve to death. And on a serious note regarding the radio preacher’s guesstimate about the end of the world, google ‘Millerites’ (did YOU know the world ended in the 1840s??) for a remarkably similar example— to the point that one of the Millerite’s names was Campbell.
For those who are Christians and perhaps worried that Harold Campbell might know what he’s talking about, you might google his name— he’e been ending the world for years. For those Christians who look forward to a normal length of life, remember what Jesus said about false prophets*, and that His return would be at the time least expected, rather than most preached on the radio.[*or profits…]
FCZ over 13 years ago
Oops—- that’s Harold Camping, not Campbell, on the radio ministry. Living in Portugal, I’m happily out of radio range…
